CSIR-Central Electrochemical Research Institute (CSIR-CECRI), Karaikudi is a premier institute working under the aegis of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) an autonomous body functions under Department of Science & Technology. Applicants are invited for walk-in-interview to be held at CSIR – CECRI, Karaikudi for selection of fresh ITI and Technician (Diploma)/Graduate (Degree) holders for engagement as Apprentice Trainees to impart training under the Apprenticeship (Amendment) Act, 1961. Minimum Educational Qualifications:
A. Trade (ITI) Apprentices:
- Passed out trainees in the particular trade of NCVT pattern designated by Director General of Employment & Training (D.G.E.&T) and who have registered with Regional Directorate of Apprenticeship Training (RDAT), Chennai will only be considered for selection.
B. Technician (Diploma)/ Graduate (Degree) Apprentices:
- Graduate/degree in Engineering/Technology/Non – Engineering full time granted by a recognized University/Institutions in the relevant discipline.
- Diploma in Engineering/Technology in full time granted by a State Council or Board of Technical education Established by a State Government/University/Institutions in the relevant discipline.
Other Eligibility Requirements:
- Graduate/Technician candidates should have passed the qualifying exam in 2020/2021/2022/2023.
- Candidates who have registered themselves in the Apprenticeship Portal for Apprenticeship and who fulfill the eligibility criteria will be considered for the walk-in-interview.
- Candidates should not have undergone or presently undergoing Apprenticeship Training in CSIR or elsewhere.
- Candidates should not have experience of one year or more in any job.
- Sandwich diplomas, private diploma, part time/Distance/short term/certificate courses, etc., are not acceptable.
Age:
- ITI: Minimum 14 years for ITI Apprentices as on the date of the interview.
- Technician/Diploma: Minimum 18 years and maximum 24 years for Technician/Diploma Apprentices as on the date of the interview.
- Graduate/Degree: Minimum 21 years and maximum 26 years for Graduate/Degree Apprentices as on the date of the interview.
- Relaxation: Relaxation by 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, for the posts reserved for them. Candidates belonging to PWD Categories shall be given age relaxation up to 10 years (up to 15 years for SC/ST and up to 13 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) Candidates.
Reservation of Vacancies:
Guidelines under Apprentices Act on Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/PWD will be followed. Those who are claiming reservation under SC/ST/OBC/PWD shall provide a certificate as per the Government Standard format, failing which their claim for reservation will be considered as ‘General’ category only. BC candidates claiming OBC (Non-creamy layer) category should submit OBC (NCL) certificate as per the approved (OBCNCL) format from the certificate issuing authority.

Candidates are advised to register as ITI/Graduate (Degree)/Technician (Diploma) Apprentices online on the following portals:

Candidates appearing for the walk-in-interview should have been registered on the above-mentioned portals, and their enrollment number should be quoted in the application.
Walk-in-Interview Details:
Date & Time of Walk-in-Interview: 01st to 03rd August, 2023 at 09.00 AM (Reporting Time: 08.45 AM).
Venue: CSIR- Central Electrochemical Research Institute, College Road, Karaikudi.
General Conditions:
- Candidates have to submit their duly filled-in application available on the CECRI Website along with original & self-attested copies of certificates, mark sheets, proof of date of birth (copy of SSLC/HSC), Aadhar Card, a passport-size photograph at the time of the interview.
- Candidates should have their valid Aadhaar Number.
- The original documents including educational qualification, Birth/SSLC certificate, community and experience certificate, etc., in respect of the selected candidate will be verified at the time of the walk-in-interview. Your joining at CSIR-CECRI as an apprenticeship trainee is subject to verification of certificates.
- If the number of candidates is more, the Selection Committee shall adopt its own criteria and shortlist the candidates for the walk-in-interview in proportionate to the available vacancies.
- Selected candidates will be awarded the National Apprenticeship Certificate by National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT)/BOAT.

On July 25, 1948, Karaikudi, a hitherto bleak and desolate village in Tamil Nadu, wore a festive look. A mammoth crowd of more than a lakh people gathered to witness the ushering in of a new era in Indian science. It was the day the CSIR-Central Electrochemical Research Institute (CSIR-CECRI) was founded at Karaikudi. The institute took roots in the patriotic fervour of RM. Alagappa Chettiar, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Dr. Shanthi Swarup Bhatnagar. Fast forward five years, on January 14, 1953, the institution became a reality when Dr. S. Radhakrishnan dedicated CSIR-CECRI, the 12th national laboratory under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), to the nation. Laying the foundation stone of the institute, Pandit Nehru said, “… I believe that by such undertakings and by yoking science to public good we can advance the lot of the people of India enormously.” Today, CSIR-CECRI, a proud family of 700 members (120 of whom are scientists), is the largest research establishment for electrochemistry in South Asia. It serves as a launching pad for a multitude of technologies for the Indian electrochemical industry.
