About BioMedical Genomics Centre (BMGC)

Biomedical Genomics Centre Kolkata (BMGC-K) is a platform for clinical scientists to carry out research in genomics with “precisely defined” disease phenotypes, including events resulting from administration of relevant drugs, drawn from the patient population of the Medical School and to return back to the patients with genomic solutions for improved diagnosis, management and prophylaxis. In addition, through the organization of workshops and CME courses on biomedical genomics, with the eventual goal of initiating a DM/DNB programme on Medical/Clinical Genetics, the BMGC will foster capacity-building that is sorely lacking in our medical profession.
Vision: To accelerate basic and translational research and capacity-building in biomedical genomics by empowering clinicians to carry out independent research and training.

Mission: To create platforms for research within medical schools and hospitals, to facilitate such research by providing access of clinicians to the infrastructure of the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics, and to promote co-operation between basic and clinical science researchers in relevant areas and in capacity-building.
