Cone In English
A cone is a three-dimensional geometric shape that tapers smoothly from a flat base (usually circular) to a point called the apex or vertex. Imagine taking a flat sheet of paper and rolling it into a cone shape, with one corner pointy and the other flattened out as the base.
Cone Formula
- Surface area of cone = πr(r+√(h²+r²)) h²
Or
- Surface area of cone = πr(r+l)
- Lateral /Curved Surface area of cone = πrl
- Base Area = πr²
- Total Surface Area = Base Area + Lateral Surface Area
- Total Surface Area = πr² + πrl
Types of Cone
There are two main types of cones
Right Circular Cone: Imagine a classic ice cream cone standing upright. This is the most common type. It has:
1. A circular base.
2. Vertex exactly opposite the center of the base.
3. Slant height and height are the same line segment (straight up).
Oblique Cone: Think of a traffic cone. This cone is tilted. Key features are:
1. A circular base.
2. Vertex is off-center, not above the base’s center.
3. Slant height and height are different lines (slant is angled).
