6. Understanding Determiners
Determiners are words placed before nouns to specify or clarify their meaning.
Types of Determiners
Articles: a, an, the
- Example: The necklace was beautiful.
Possessive Pronouns: my, our, your, her, his, their
- Example: Her husband was a kind man.
Demonstratives: this, that, these, those
- Example: That evening, she lost the necklace.
Quantifiers: much, many, all, some, few, several
- Example: All these things happened because of one mistake.
Numbers: one, two, three, first, second
- Example: One evening, she went to the party.
Usage in Sentences:
- The necklace she borrowed was fake.
- An error changed her life forever.
- Another woman might have told the truth.

4. Form pairs. Discuss how ‘Part II’ of the story could have been different. Write your storyline in the form of bullets showing the main events.

- Mathilde and her husband would have saved 10 years of hard work and suffering.
- They would have continued their normal life without poverty.
- Mathilde would have learned a lesson about contentment and honesty.
5. Imagine what must have happened after Mathilde’s friend discovered that the diamonds were real. Do you think she would return it to Mathilde ? Would that make Mathilde happy?
- Madame Forestier might return the real necklace to Mathilde if she realized the replacement was real.
- Mathilde might feel even more regretful for her unnecessary struggle.
- The return of the real necklace would not bring back the 10 years she lost.
- Mathilde might become a wiser person after this experience.

→ He was a kind and patient man, who sacrificed everything for his wife’s happiness.
3. Which events changed Mathilde’s life?
→ Losing the necklace, hiding the truth, and borrowing money changed her life completely.
