- On 18 April 1930, Surya Sen and his associates attacked two British armouries in Chittagong (now in Bangladesh). They cut telephone and telegraph lines to disrupt communication and seized arms. Despite fierce resistance, many revolutionaries, including Kalpana Dutta and Pritilata Waddedar, fought bravely. Surya Sen was captured and executed in 1933, inspiring further revolutionary actions.
2. Explain the contribution of Swatantryaveer Savarkar in the armed revolutionary movement.
- Swatantryaveer V. D. Savarkar founded Mitramela, later renamed Abhinav Bharat, to organize an armed struggle against the British. While studying in England, he sent revolutionary literature and weapons to India. His book, ‘The 1857 War of Independence’, inspired future revolutionaries. Despite being imprisoned for 50 years, Savarkar continued to promote social reform and national unity.
