(1) The Coronation of Shivaji Maharaj:
- Shivaji Maharaj was crowned at Raigad Fort on 6 June 1674 by Pandit Gagabhatt.
- He became the Chhatrapati of Swaraj, started the Rajyabhisheka era, and issued new coins.
(2) Escape from Agra:
- After the Treaty of Purandar, Shivaji Maharaj was called to Agra by Aurangzeb.
- He was put under house arrest, but he cleverly escaped in fruit baskets and returned to Maharashtra safely.
(3) Shivaji Maharaj’s campaign of the South:
- In 1677, Shivaji Maharaj started his southern campaign and won Bengaluru, Jinji, Vellore, and Hoskote.
- He also met Vyankoji Raje, his half-brother, and tried to bring him into Swaraj’s rule.
(4) Shivaji Maharaj’s preparation for the coronation:
- Before the coronation, he captured important forts and strengthened Swaraj.
- Special coins were minted, a new calendar was started, and a grand throne was made.
4. Give reasons:
(1) Shivaji Maharaj entered into the Treaty of Purandar.
- The Mughals, led by Mirza Raja Jaisingh, attacked Purandar Fort, and Murarbaji Deshpande fought bravely.
- To save Swaraj, Shivaji Maharaj signed the Treaty of Purandar (1665), giving 23 forts to the Mughals.
(2) Shivaji Maharaj took an aggressive stand against the Mughals.
- After escaping from Agra, he wanted to regain his lost forts and territories.
- He recaptured Sinhgad, Purandar, Lohagad, Mahuli, Karnala, and Rohida and also raided Surat again.
