1. What are Energy Resources?
- Energy resources are natural sources that provide power for different activities.
- We need energy for transport, cooking, industries, and daily life activities.
2. Types of Energy Resources
Energy resources are divided into two types:
1. Conventional Energy Resources (Traditional, can get exhausted)
- Examples: Wood, coal, petroleum, natural gas, hydel power.
2. Non-Conventional Energy Resources (New, renewable, and eco-friendly)
- Examples: Solar energy, wind energy, bio-gas, tidal energy, geothermal energy.
3. Conventional Energy Resources
(a) Firewood
- Used in villages for cooking.
- Causes smoke and deforestation.
(b) Coal
- Found in mines and used for trains, industries, and power plants.
- Causes pollution when burned.
(c) Mineral Oil (Petroleum)
- Used in vehicles, factories, and power plants.
- Refined into petrol, diesel, and kerosene.
(d) Natural Gas
- Found underground and used for cooking (LPG) and vehicles (CNG).
- Burns cleanly without pollution.
(e) Hydel Power (Electricity from Water)
- Produced by dams on rivers.
- Cheap and renewable, but affects river ecosystems.
4. Non-Conventional Energy Resources
(a) Solar Energy (Sun’s Energy)
- Used for cooking, heating water, and electricity.
- Unlimited and pollution-free.
(b) Wind Energy
- Windmills generate electricity from wind.
- Eco-friendly and renewable.
(c) Bio-Gas
- Made from cow dung and plant waste.
- Used for cooking and electricity.
(d) Tidal Energy (Sea Waves Energy)
- Produced from sea waves.
- Used for electricity generation.
(e) Geo-Thermal Energy (Heat from Earth’s Surface)
- Found near hot water springs.
- Used for electricity and heating.
5. Importance of Saving Energy
- Reduces pollution and protects nature.
- Saves natural resources for the future.
- Helps in sustainable development.
6. Conservation of Energy
- Switch off lights and fans when not needed.
- Use public transport to save fuel.
- Use solar, wind, and bio-gas energy to reduce pollution.
