Notes For All Chapters – English Class 6
1. Introduction
This chapter is about two science experiments:
- Marbling – A way to make beautiful paper designs using oil paints and water.
- Magic Watering Can – A special watering can that controls water flow using air pressure.
2. What is Marbling?
Marbling is a method of decorating paper with colorful designs.
It works because oil does not mix with water.
Things Needed for Marbling:
- A bucket of water
- Oil paints (red, blue, yellow, etc.)
- Turpentine or kerosene (to mix with paints)
- A brush
- White paper
Steps to Do Marbling:
Fill a bucket three-fourths with water.
Mix oil paints with turpentine or kerosene.
Sprinkle the colors on the water using a brush.
Use the brush to twirl the colors into patterns.
Gently place a sheet of paper on the water.
Lift the paper and let it dry.
Why It Works?
- Oil floats on water and forms colorful patterns.
- The paper picks up the colors, creating beautiful designs.
3. What is the Magic Watering Can?
A special watering can that controls water flow using air pressure.
Things Needed to Make It:
- An empty tin with a lid
- A nail and hammer
Steps to Make a Magic Watering Can:
- Take an empty tin.
- Use a nail and hammer to make a hole at the bottom.
- Make many small holes in the lid.
- Be careful while using the hammer.
- Your magic watering can is ready!
How to Use the Magic Watering Can:
- Cover the bottom hole with your finger.
- Fill the can with water.
- Put the lid on and turn it upside down.
- Remove your finger – water will start falling like a shower.
- Cover the hole again – the water stops.
Why It Works?
- Air pressure controls the flow of water.
- When you block the hole, air cannot enter, so water stops flowing.
- When you open the hole, air enters and pushes the water out.
4. Important Words & Meanings
Marbling – A technique to create beautiful designs on paper.
Turpentine/Kerosene – A liquid used to thin oil paints.
Air Pressure – The force of air that controls water flow.
Experiment – A science activity to learn new things.
5. Lessons from the Chapter
- Science can be fun and creative!
- Marbling shows how oil and water do not mix.
- The magic watering can teaches us about air pressure.
